| Hurwitz Numbers and Moduli of Curves |
| Abstract:I will discuss a formula relating the number of ramified coverings of the sphere to integrals over the moduli space of curves. This formula (discovered by Ekedahl-Lando-Shapiro-Vainshtein) has applications both to the geometry of moduli space and the combinatorics of the symmetric group. |
