Abstract: Using elementary projective geometry I will show how to construct all compact Hermitian symmetric spaces and homogeneous complex contact manifolds, all without reference to Lie groups or algebras. Using the algorithms I'll explain how to obtain new proofs of the classification of compact Hermitian symmetric spaces and  complex simple Lie algebras (without classifying root systems).
