Abstract: This is work in progress. It was observed by Fulton that Klyachko's theorem on the spectrum of the sum of two Hermitian matrices holds not only over the complex numbers, but also over the quaternions. We attempt to offer an explanation of this fact in terms of convexity properties of moment maps.
