Talk at 1:30 p.m. in 509 Lake Hall

Abstract: We present a introduction to motives, motivic finite dimensionality and their connections to geometry of algebraic varieties. Concrete examples will be considered and some new results will be given. In particular, we will discuss why motivic dimension is so important in the study of configurations of points on smooth projective surfaces with h0,2=0.
