V. Lakshmibai

Abstract:   This talk concerns Wahl's conjecture on the surjectivity of the Gaussian map for the generalized flag variety G/B, G being a semi-simple algebraic group. Wahl's conjecture in characteristic 0 was proved by Kumar using representation-theoretic techniques. We shall report some partial results on Wahl's conjecture in positive characteristics. This is joint work with Raghavan and Sankaran.
