Abstract:   A question that dates back to Monge, and has been worked on by Fubini, Griffiths and Harris, Hwang and Yamaguchi and others, is to recognize homogeneous varieties by their local differential geometry. I will describe recent work with C. Robles where we prove a general recognition theorem where we use Lie algebra cohomology to resolve exterior differential systems.
