Homology of  p-covers and Milnor numbers

Abstract:   Let L be a link in S3 and p a prime number. A homomorphism from π1(S3 - L) to Z/p determines a regular p-fold cover M of S3 branched along L. We relate the p-torsion in the first homology of M with Milnor's higher linking numbers of L.
