Course Description for MTH 1000 Mathematics Preliminaries 1
Prerequisites: Placement by freshmen entrance test
or by approval of course coordinator. Closed to students who
have passed courses higher than MTH 1000.
Student Population: Students lacking knowledge of
fractions, decimals, and pre-algebra.
Goals: To build a foundation for taking required
math and statistics courses. To build problem-solving
skills and confidence.
Topics:
- Operations on fractions and decimals
- Conversions between fractions, decimals, and
percents
- Laws of exponents
- Operations on signed numbers
- Operations on polynomials
- Solving simple first degree equations
