Course Description
MTH1114 Calculus for Business and Economics
Prerequisites: MTH1113 or the equivalent
Student Population: College of Business or College of A&S Economics majors.
Goals: This course introduces the students to some of
the concepts of calculus, especially with applications to
business and economics. The greatest emphasis is on
differential calculus, although ideas of area and
antidifferentiation are covered near the end.
Topics:
- Average rates of change
- The derivative as an instantaneous rate of change
- Marginal analysis
- Applications of differentiation: curve sketching,
optimization and related rates, especially as applied to
financial questions
- Calculus of exponential and log functions
- Indefinite and definite integrals
