Abstract:   The talk will summarize the regularity problem for solutions of the non-elliptic 'sums of squares of vector fields' partial differential operators originating from several complex variables and present a simple new proof and extensions of Kohn's striking, even shocking recent example of hypoellipticity in the presence of large loss of derivatives.
