Message from the Chair

You will see reflected in these pages a department of faculty and students who are committed to research and teaching mathematics. The Mathematics Department has a number of ongoing research seminars and annual conferences. Our graduate program offers a Ph.D. and several Masters degrees. At the undergraduate level you can choose to major in Mathematics, to earn a dual degree in Mathematics and another discipline or minor in Mathematics. Through our NSF funded PRISM program in partnership with colleagues in Physics and Biology, we offer the opportunity for students to experience research and discovery in science during their first two years. These experiences can open your door to further undergraduate research whether with faculty or on co-op. Whatever your choice at the undergraduate level, we have an excellent co-op program for you to explore and build your future in conjunction with your class work. The Department is also instrumental in a wide range of outreach programs that connect us with K-12 colleagues and students in the greater Boston area.

I welcome you to join with us in the excitement of mathematics.

Richard Porter, Professor and Acting Chair
