Organized by Professor Jonathan Weitsman

Guest Speaker: Davide Gaiotto

Title: Electric-magnetic duality and boundary conditions in N=4 Super Yang Mills theory
Date: Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: 509 Lake Hall

  • Pretalk I (1:00 - 2:00): Abstract:Field theories, and in particular supersymmetric gauge theory, have provided interesting insights on seemingly unrelated mathematical subjects. A recent example is the relation to the geometric Langlands program. I will describe some work on electric-magnetic duality for gauge theories defined on a space with boundaries. We uncovered a rich category of boundary conditions in supersymmetric gauge theory, which should have useful mathematical applications. I will discuss briefly how such boundary conditions may be translated into the language of geometric Langlands.:

  • Break (2:00 - 2:30)

  • Research Talk (2:30 - 3:30): Continuation of the pretalk.

  • Department tea (3:30 - 4:00)

  • Research Talk (4:00 - 5:00): Continued research talk.

  • Discussion at 5:00 p.m. followed by dinner with the speaker.
