Graduate Program
Our Department offers an M.S. degree and a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics; both are designed to provide students with a broad mathematical foundation and a strong command of an area of specialization. In addition, we offer two programs in applied mathematics: an M.S. in Industrial and Applied Math and an M.S. in Operations Research. In all our graduate programs, students work with internationally recognized faculty in a range of research fields in both pure and applied mathematics. In addition, numerous seminars and colloquia at Northeastern and in the Boston area give students ample opportunity to learn about important recent advances in mathematics.Once Ph.D. students have advanced to candidacy, they are invited to give talks on their research in Departmental seminars. There are also opportunities to participate in workshops at various institutions; for example, our Department is a contributing member of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California. Many of our Ph.D. alumni (such as Lizhen Ji) have taken prestigious positions in academia and industry. For more information see our Program Booklet and for info on applying for one of our graduate programs, please see our Admissions page.
