MTH1226: Differential Equations for Engineers II
This course features the use of partial differential equations and Fourier series to model and analyze
various scientific problems involving space and
time: diffusion of heat in metal rods, vibrations of strings, and heat diffusion and physical vibrations for two-dimensional domains (plates and drumheads).
Both the analytic solution techniques and their physical
applications will be stressed, and computer labs will be used to help visualize the solutions obtained.
Prerequisites: MTH 1225 (or equivalent)
TEXT: Elementary Applied Partial Differential Equations,
by R. Haberman (Prentice-Hall, 1987).
The course covers roughly the first six chapters of the book.
