Mathematics is of ever-increasing importance to our society and everyday life. It has long been the language of science and technology, and provides a rich source of methods for analyzing and solving problems encountered in the physical world. Today, mathematics is essential in virtually all fields of human endeavor, including business, the arts, and the social sciences.
The NU Mathematics Department offers several degree programs: The Bachelor of Science, the Bachelor of Arts, and a combined BS/MS Program. It is also possible to combine Mathematics with another major by pursuing a combined major, a minor, or an independent major.
Many math majors take advantage of co-op opportunities in the scientific and business communities in Boston and elsewhere. Mathematical training may lead to co-op placements and careers in applied research (natural sciences, engineering, economics, management computer science) as well as in mathematical research, teaching, or industry.
