Course Description

The course discusses the following basic topics: mathematical induction; basics of counting; permutations and combinations; Pascal's triangle; Stirling numbers of the first and second kind; introduction to the calculus of differences; Fibonacci-type recurrent relations; generating functions; inclusion-exclusion principle; rook polynomials and their applications; matching problems. The grading will be determined as follows: homework 35%, quizzes 30%, final exam 35%.
