Title: Boundary motive of Shimura varieties
Abstract:In this talk, the boundary motive of a scheme X of finite type over a perfect field will be defined. By definition, it measures the difference between the motive and the motive with compact support of X. The basic properties of the boundary motive will be explained, and applied to Shimura varieties. The resulting formula should be seen as a motivic analogue of Pink's theorem on the direct images of étale sheaves in the Baily-Borel compactification.
