DIRECTIONS

Here are some directions on how to get to Columbia, by various means of transportation. Another set of directions can be found here. Probably the easiest way is to take the #1 (or #9) IRT train, and get off at the Columbia University station at West 116th Street and Broadway (marked with a red diamond on the campus map above).

ACCOMMODATIONS

The hotel situation in New York City during the AMS meeting will almost certainly be very tight. Indeed, the New York City Marathon will take place that same weekend. Because of that event, the AMS has been unable to secure a block of rooms in one hotel at a reasonable cost to meeting participants.

At this writing there may be a very few rooms (most likely fewer than 10) available through the Conference Housing Office on the Columbia campus. Standard rooms (two double beds, private bath) are $100/night and require a credit card guarantee. Send email to hotel@columbia.edu.

Some participants have already made reservations with the Columbia housing, at about $115/night which is about half that at most other hotels. The phone number there is 212-854-2946. Another participant recalls staying at Whittier Hall, on 1230 Amsterdam Avenue. The phone number there is: 212-678-3235

Another possibility is City Lights Bed & Breakfast Service. They will arrange bed and breakfast in an apartment. Price range is about $120/night, including private bath and continental breakfast. As of this writing they have some availability. Call 212-737-7049 or fax 212-535-2755.

You may find success using a room-finding service. A competent service seems to be the New York Visitors Hotel Hotline, at www.hoteldiscount.com, or call 1-800-634-6835 (you may also try to call or email Arg Stratton, 1-800-510-6937 (ext 1320) or astratton@180096hotel.com). Please be very specific about the accommodation you need (single/double/price). Please expect prices of at least $180/ night during this weekend when many of the hotels are already sold out. I hope that participants would be willing to share rooms to cut down on the costs.

Here is a list of hotels and other accommodations in the Columbia area, and the rest of New York City, provided by the Math Department at Columbia.

And here is a list of hotels, inns, and residence halls provided by the University Residence Halls.
