Course Description

This course is a one-quarter, calculus-based introduction to probability theory. Its goal is to develop the mathematical tools and concepts through which probability models are applied to solve problems. The course focuses on:

probability functions for finite and infinite spaces
conditional probability and independence
discrete and continuous probability distributions for one or more random variables
expected value, variance, Chebyshev's inequality
binomial, Poisson, and normal distributions
law of large numbers
central limit theorem.
